SharePoint Designer 2007 Training Resources

Posted by workerthread on February 29, 2008

If you are using or planning to use MOSS 2007 or WSS 3.0, then I think SharePoint Designer 2007 is an essential tool.  I know there is a fair bit of discussion out in the blogosphere about the best way to customise pages and sites, and whether Designer is too much of a dangerous “end-user” tool, but I think it’s a great way to make minor customisations very quickly.  Anyone who thinks it’s still the same old FrontPage product definitely needs to re-visit it.

So if you are looking for SharePoint Designer training resources there are a few things you might want to look at –

Late last year I took the SharePoint Designer course at Combined Knowledge.  Definitely a good use of time and money if you want to get up to speed quickly.  Combined Knowledge currently run this course in the UK, but I see that they are branching out into several other European locations, and they also have a link with MindSharp in the USA who I believe authored the course.

Also very useful is the Microsoft Press book Office SharePoint Designer Step by Step by Penny Coventry.  Penny also teaches at Combined Knowledge, and has set up a site to go with the book.

Finally, this week I noticed that Microsoft has downloadable training modules for SharePoint Designer.  You can download the Portal Edition here and the Standalone Edition here.
