Free SharePoint Training on Your Desktop

December 21, 2007

So you’re home for the Christmas break, fed up with the usual holiday TV specials, and you’ve brought your laptop with you.  So why not download the free SharePoint Training from the Microsoft Office web site?

There’s a standalone version for your desktop and a Portal edition for MOSS 2007 (which even includes a reporting function that allows an administrator/trainer to track learners’ completed training topics!).

Tafiti Search Visualisation – Code now on CodePlex

December 19, 2007

Tafiti is a Microsoft search Visualisation site developed using Silverlight, with Live Search as its search engine.  You can take a look at the Tafiti site here (you will need to get the Silverlight bits downloaded before you can use it).

The Windows live dev team are now releasing the source code for the Tafiti project on CodePlex, so if you are developing search solutions you can now download the code, and even use it in your own commercial solutions.  More information on this here.

Apparently Tafiti means “do research” in Swahili…

New BBC Web Site

December 14, 2007

I just noticed that a beta version of the BBC web site re-design is up and running, and can be viewed here.

The current beta has got that Ajax-y Web 2.0 feel about it, with lots of personalisation and drag and drop features like iGoogle, Windows Live and PageFlakes (or indeed SharePoint web parts).  It is very much a beta, so I’m seeing some errors and rendering problems, but it’s definitely worth a look.

Have You Ever Enjoyed a Service Pack?

December 12, 2007

The various RSS feeds I subscribe to were swamped this morning with posts telling me about the newly available service packs for Office 2007, SharePoint Server 2007, and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.  Many of them along the lines of:

The Services Packs are available – here are the links – Enjoy! or frequently Enjoy :)

Now I enjoy a lot of things in life, but I can honestly say I’ve never actively enjoyed a Service Pack.  So I decided not to post the same links here.  If you want to be a pioneer, I’m sure you will be able to find the downloads through a quick search.  Otherwise, keep watch here, and I will post something once I have had a chance to try them out.
