BBC News Most Popular Now – Nice Dashboard

Posted by workerthread on August 26, 2007

The BBC News site has had a “Most Popular Stories Now” list on the front page for a long time.  I see it has added a link to “Most Popular Now, In Detail” link which takes you to a nice looking animate dashboard which lets you see most popular stories by region, and a clever chart showing the most popular stories by day.  if you are interested in Information Dashboard design, this new feature is worth a look.

Verity Stob on Software Diagramming

Posted by workerthread on August 23, 2007

The very excellent Verity Stob column on the Register Developer site is always worth reading, but the latest piece on software diagramming is just hilarious.  I particularly like the the use case for the FaceBook Poke utility

Deja Vu – Someone Saw Photosynth?

Posted by workerthread on August 12, 2007

I saw the film Deja Vu a couple of weeks ago – quite good, obviously totally unbelievable plot about time travel, recording tile etc but still worth watching.  What I did notice was that the software that they were using to play back time was VERY similar to the user interface that Microsoft labs are using in Photosynth.  It’s true that the Microsoft plug-in doesn’t let you play back recordings of events in time yet though.

Mind you, they do have this project called MyLifeBits which could fit quite well….
